Furries
By MissTrish (Wed Sep 06, 2006 at 07:40:29 PM EST) just jamming the brains back in (all tags)
There have been many events that I have glossed over recently in an attempt to discard them as inconsequential. Now that they are becoming less stressful, further from my control or need to control, I think I can let it out a little.

But just a little.

The house is empty. ND may be upstairs, but the only sign I have of life is randomly loud commercials blaring from him computer. This neither proves nor disproves his presence. I could go up and poke my head in, but that may result in conversation, and I am not sure that I am at that level yet.

256, misslake and Mx returned early this morning. Despite this, the house is still empty.

I made a noble effort; I would sleep, I would! But the sound of 256's combats pounding past my room was too much too bear at 2:30am. As such, I am still awake. There was an adventure out for chinese food to a restaurant that wanted to sleep too. They would only serve two of us take out. There was talk of breakfast only hours away.

I keep coming back to the house being empty. I know where they are. Airport. Seeing off E.

She has left the house full with material belongings, things that she wanted to have a good home but couldn't take with her to the Netherlands. But more than that, I can feel her in every room. She is a part of the 'Shack in a way that goes beyond the books, the vcr, the clothes, or the glass pie plate.

I'm really going to miss her. I am not the only one, not by a long shot.

["I met Wayne Gretzky. Fucking Wayne Gretzky."]

A contributing factor in my anger has been Aiko. Please note: Aiko is supposedly a feminine name. Aiko is not a feminine cat. While lacking two of the basic male elements, he possesses no female anatomy. Aiko was a misspelling that somehow stuck. He was in fact named after the game, Ico.

I have inherited him from K-Star, who has also left the Shack but for Chicago. Two days after she left, Aiko developed an incredibly infected abcess on his head. No pictures to follow; it was gross. At any rate, we had to keep him inside.

The first use of his litter box in months revealed that there was blood coming from somewhere. But really, anywhere is bad.

It was discovered that he has crystals in his urine.

$400 later, kitty is hopefully okay. He's bitchy again and finished the antibiotics. The anti-spasmodic have two more doses left to help prevent his urinary tract from clogging.

I hate it when my creatures are sick. Since I predominantly keep rodents, sick = dead. This has been my first happy ending. It is very hard to find a vet that will operate on tumours in a mouse, even when they are deforming their head.

["Light beer? What the fuck is up with that?"]

Further, it is now - finally, after unpleasantness and pleasantness combined - official.

December I will be leaving the Shawshack. ncmt and I are taking that horrible, frightening, ghastly step: co-habitation. OOOOooooOOoooOOooooOOOOO! The sitcom at nine!

["Where are we going?" "I dunno, but we're leaving in five minutes."]

I seem to have come into more work than I can handle. Three websites and a day job. Shits, yo.

Anyway, that's it from your foreign correspondent, Trixie the Pixie.

P.S.
I saw two Darth Vaders and five Storm Troopers this weekend. Not to mention the Cardcaptor Sakura and Yuna and Rikku pairing.

You paid 400$ to fix a cat? by debacle (2.00 / 0) #1 Wed Sep 06, 2006 at 07:51:22 PM EST
Now a dog, I could understand.

But a cat?

Nice hat.

never been attacked in the particularly charming way that Aiko has. When you get your arm shredded to bloody ribbons every night trying to make the bed, you too will know the joy in spending $400 to feel that pain again.

Can you identify the logo? Points will be awarded.

soon enough.

Further, you are wrong and are not looking closely enough. I will allow mistakes for fuzziness, but no points for you!

Is that it isn't this logo.

Also note the post-script above. I make no denials.

the combination of the words "from your foreign correspondent" and that photo is just way too cute.

So, success with the webcam?

Thank you. I am not quite so down now, there are others in the house that need love more. But for what it's worth, I love you too.

Yay that the kitty is feeling better. by toxicfur (4.00 / 1) #4 Wed Sep 06, 2006 at 09:17:20 PM EST
Those crystals are scary. :-( Worth it to make them better, though.

And I do know what you mean about rodents. Poor guys almost always succumb to tumors. Here's a picture of Sarda, my lovely little rat, who died a few years ago. She really was awesome.

Silly pets by skippy (2.00 / 0) #5 Wed Sep 06, 2006 at 11:57:22 PM EST
They can be so expensive.  Our poor little netherland dwarf rabbit, Boudicca, cost a LOT of money when a freak accident ended up "de-gloving" her.  Ouch.  Also, $$$.  She's doing great these days, despite being our most expensive pet by far.

But she's also very loved, and has a lot of character.  There's just something about a tiny bunny - who you outweigh by a factor of 90:1 - trying to shove her way past you.  "You're in my way, move it!"

Pretty! by MissTrish (2.00 / 0) #13 Thu Sep 07, 2006 at 07:07:22 AM EST
I've never kept rats, somehow, but I'm always struck by how intelligent they look, even standing around in photo.

The crystals didn't scare me so much as the vet saying "There's a LOT of blood in his urine." Twice.

Rats: by toxicfur (2.00 / 0) #14 Thu Sep 07, 2006 at 07:24:03 AM EST
They really are amazingly intelligent. Sarda knew her name and would come when I called her, and she was incredibly affectionate (she loved to have the top of her head scratched).

One of her favorite games was Torment the Cats. She lived in a large coated-wire cage (maybe 2.5 ft cubed) with two levels connected by a little ramp. When Sarda noticed the cats getting interested in her, she'd move a little too close to the side of the cage and start grooming herself or otherwise obviously ignoring the cat. Paw would dart between the wires of the cage, and she'd bite it, moving back just far enough that the cat couldn't reach her. It entertained both her and the cats for hours at a time.

Pet insurance by nebbish (2.00 / 0) #7 Thu Sep 07, 2006 at 06:18:41 AM EST
I get scared my cat will get ill and I won't be able to afford to do anything about it, so I pay out for pet insurance every month.

Of course, she's been the picture of health since I started doing this.

I have considered it by MissTrish (2.00 / 0) #11 Thu Sep 07, 2006 at 07:04:05 AM EST
but all the plans that I've found quickly close the gap on what I have spent so far, and I need that money for candy!

I'm sure there's an approprate proverb for trying to prevent what has already happened.

I suppose it depends on what/how many pets by nebbish (2.00 / 0) #12 Thu Sep 07, 2006 at 07:06:42 AM EST
you have, but it's only six quid (dunno how many dollars that is) per month for our five year-old cat, which I thought was a bargain until I found out human insurance is ten.

£10 a month? by ambrosen (2.00 / 0) #16 Thu Sep 07, 2006 at 08:07:32 AM EST
Not bad when you consider that NHS expenditure on me is probably close to a grand a month. £600+ for medicines alone.

you were one of those ninjas who was so good that he didn't have to be quiet. Could be all "hey, I'm a ninja. What are you going to do about it? You are already dead."
